It’s a funny old thing, insurance. People often raise an eyebrow when we bring it up or suggest it as the first thing to go when budgeting is tight. But the truth is, insurance is incredibly important, especially if you have a family to look after.
I’ve helped process quite a few insurance claims from my clients over the years, and each time I’ve thanked their lucky stars that they had the fortitude to put their scepticism aside and take insurance seriously.
But none more so than my own mother, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016. I’ve witnessed firsthand the difference insurance can make – more importantly, the peace of mind, it can bring – this is why I’m a big advocate for getting the right cover.

Just because your friend pays a certain amount for insurance, doesn’t mean you’ll pay the same amount.
The amount of cover you need is completely unique to your situation. There are so many variables, including if you have kids, a mortgage and other responsibilities.
Insurance premiums can also vary according to your own health, job and lifestyle.
It’s important not to fall into the trap of comparing yourself to your friends, colleagues or neighbours. You simply need to focus on your own needs and objectives, and do what’s right for you and your family.
